Redox (Reduction-Oxidation) Reactions: A type of chemical reaction that involves the transfer of electrons between two substances. In a redox reaction, one substance is oxidized (loses electrons) while the other is reduced (gains electrons). Redox reactions are fundamental to many chemical processes, including metabolism, energy production, and environmental chemistry.

Example: The reaction between hydrogen and oxygen to form water is a redox reaction where hydrogen is oxidized and oxygen is reduced.
